Student Interaction Design and Research Conference - SIDeR 2009, April 15 to 17 - Eindhoven, the Netherlands

Scope of the Conference

THEME

Flirting with the Future
prototyped visions by the next generation

The organisation of the 5th SIDeR conference aims to elicit discussion about the future of interaction and interactive systems. Visions of the next generation designers will be the startingpoint for this discussion. Presenting these visions should in our vision not be done through elaborate presentations, but through the experience with prototypes of systems that fit their vision.

TOPICS

  • Big Brother is playing your music
The one with ambient platforms and intelligent environments
  • Designing the void
The one about content, services and disappearing products
  • The illusion of designing interaction
The one where interaction and its design are questioned
  • Designocracy or designocrazy
The one about ethics, societal transformation and 'the why'
  • The new pencils for design
The one with design tools and methods
  • Can I pick your brain?
    The one with your vision

The theme and topics have been kept very condense and undefined on purpose. We aim to elicit discussion with these sentences, but try to keep everything as unconstrained as possible at the same time.

ChALLenge FOR INTERACTION

In this conference, we especially invite graduate and post-graduate students to experience and discuss the future of interaction through their designs, supported by and grounded in solid design arguments.

Students are invited to submit a (video) explanation of their interactive systems, supported by and grounded in solid design arguments.
Submissions should contribute and relate to design research knowledge. Submissions should be 2000 word max, using the Springer guidelines, before February 1st, 2009.
